Acanthus foliations

Structurally this double-capital resembles W14MS70. Between each broad, deeper-lying leaf a further five-lobe leaf is placed in the middle of the bifurcated spines of a larger leaf. These interlocking leaves separate in turn the half-leaves that nestle against each of the vertical spines, both to the left and right. The arms of the volutes and console block are also adorned with foliations.
The frieze of the bevelled impost block is decorated with the ornamental palmette motif that is recurrent in the cloister. Heart-shaped tendrils encircle palmette leaves; they are joined together by little tripartite clamps. Curling terminals and small lanceolate leaves decorate the spandrels. The treatment of the foliations in this capital is quite characteristic for the basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse.
