Foliate ornament and palmettes

The basic structure of this capital is formed of a garland of leaves on top of which stems and tendrils form a network of curving lozenge- and heart-shaped compartments, five-lobed and recessed palmettes nestle in These compartements. Pine-cones are suspended from the corners and the centre of each side. Small volutes are placed under the base of the console block. Palmettes springing from the same leaves as those on the main body of the capital are spread along the arms of the corner volutes, but here they are scrolled.
This language of form is found on many of the foliate capitals in the cloister, but in this case their carving is particularly decorative, just as in E13MS33, which is presumably the work of the same sculptor.
