Foliated capital

The foliated capitals on all three sides of this bundled pillar on the north-west corner of the cloister are formed of corinthianizing ornament.
Stylized acanthus leaves rise directly over the annulet; their inner structure is formed of deeply incised parallel lines that are diagonally splayed round the central rib of the leaf. A second row of acanthus foliations extending above them supports the abacus plate.
The leaves in this second row also show strongly incised parallel lines and end in small helices or volutes.
The impost is delicately ornamented with a continuous tendril, enclosing three-leaf palmettes.
